Are you planning to go ski touring or travel in avalanche-prone terrain? Are you wondering about how to recognise avalanche terrain and danger signs related to the snow cover? Do you want to make good decisions about which ski tours are suitable based on the current conditions? Perhaps you are already an experienced skier but would like to improve your knowledge about how to read the terrain and make safe choices about routes and tracks?
If you answer yes to one or more of these questions, then we have an avalanche safety course for you.
Opplev Oppdal offers avalanche safety courses for novice, intermediate, extra eager and experienced level skiers wanting to experience the winter mountains on their own. The content of the course is adjusted to suit the level, experience, personal preferences and wishes of the participants. The aim is to learn as much as possible by focusing on topics of relevance to the group. We focus on methods, tools and patterns that you can use actively on your ski tour. Our instructors ensure an engaging learning environment with active participation.
Relevant topics include avalanche terrain, avalanche warnings, weather forecasts/weather systems, movement patterns up and down, making safe route choices, snow cover and snow knowledge, avalanche equipment and rescue situations.
Each day of the course lasts from approx. 08.30 to 15.30. Courses take place outside. We choose the ski tour/terrain based on the snow and weather conditions, the level the participants and the topics to be covered.
