Climb Romsdalshorn
Rising like a jagged spear over Romsdalsfjorden, Romsdalshorn is one of Norway’s most famous alpine climbs. With its dramatic twin summits, sweeping views over the Trollveggen (Troll Wall) and Rauma Valley, and a choice of legendary ridges, this is a climb every mountain lover should experience at least once.
Our guided full-day trip from Åndalsnes is designed for adventurous hikers and climbers with good fitness, whether you’re a first-time roped climber or an experienced mountaineer seeking an iconic tick. Led by qualified guides, you’ll learn rope techniques, move safely across exposed terrain, and stand atop one of Scandinavia’s most striking summits.

- Duration: 8–9 hours total (start ~06:00)
- Route options: Nordveggen / North wall (most popular), Halls Renna/ Halls Couloir (chosen by guide based on conditions)
- Difficulty: Intermediate–advanced (UIAA III–IV / Norwegian grade 3–4). No prior technical climbing experience required for guided groups, but comfort with exposure is essential.

Itinerary
- 06:00 : Transfer to the trailhead (15–20 min).
- Approach: 1.5–2 hours through alpine meadows and rocky slopes to the base of the route.
- Ascent: Climb the selected route (Normal ridge 2.3 pitches and short roping; North wall 5 pitches) with your guide’s coaching and safety systems in place.
- Summit: Celebrate with panoramic views over fjords, rivers, and cliffs.
- Descent: Careful abseils (4 rope lengths) and scrambling back to the base; return to Åndalsnes by late afternoon.
Route Details
Nordveggen / North Wall
- Grade: UIAA IV (~Norwegian 4)
- Character: Airy ridge climbing with mixed scrambling and short vertical steps.
- Hazards: Occasional loose rock and stonefall; helmets mandatory.
- Time: 4–5 hours on route.
Halls renna/ Halls couloir
- Grade: UIAA III (~Norwegian 3)
- Character: Less technical, more straightforward route — ideal in cooler or windier conditions.
- Time: 3–4 hours on route.
